THE STOTESBURY CUP REGATTA
May 19 – 21, 2011
Dear Crew Parents,
The Combined Cathedral Crews Rowing Club (CCCRC) will participate in the prestigious Stotesbury Cup Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. This year, the regatta will be held on Friday, May 20th and Saturday, May 21st. Our club will compete against more than one hundred other high schools, including some of the best rowing programs in the country.
Parents, family members, and friends are always encouraged to attend Stotesbury. It is the highlight of our season and everyone joins together to cheer on our rowers, relax by the water in our team’s tent, and enjoy catered refreshments.
Thursday, May 19th:
The NCS and STA rowers will travel to Philadelphia by coach bus during the afternoon of Thursday, May 19th. Actual locations and times of bus departures from school will be announced closer to the event. The buses will proceed directly to the race site where rowers will meet the boats and practice before dinner. There will be a group dinner at the river for all rowers and coaches on Thursday night. After dinner, the buses will take the rowers to the hotel. This year, the team will be staying at The Embassy Suites Philadelphia – Center City, where they will share rooms on a coach-assigned basis.
Friday, May 20th:
The qualifying heats for the Freshmen boats begin early Friday morning around 8:00 a.m. Most Frosh parents will want to travel to Philadelphia on Thursday evening. Breakfast will be provided at the hotel for all rowers. During the regatta, a bus will shuttle the rowers back and forth between the hotel and the race course. Qualifying heats for all boats continue through late Friday afternoon. Food and beverages will be available at the tent during the day for rowers and coaches. Catering will also be available to families who sign up in advance. There will be a $50 per head charge for family members and friends to cover the cost of a light breakfast, lunch, snacks, and beverages provided by our caterer during the two-day event.
On Friday evening, we will host a cocktail reception for all parents, families, and friends from 5 – 7 pm at the Vesper Boat Club, #10 Kelly Drive on Boathouse Row. At 7 pm, the rowers and coaches will arrive at the Vesper Boat Club for their traditional Friday night team dinner.
Saturday, May 21st:
Saturday is the big day for the qualifying teams! Semifinals start early, and the finals are held late Saturday afternoon. When your rower finishes racing, he or she may opt to ride back to DC with you or return by bus to STA on Garfield Street around 9:00 p.m. Saturday evening.
This year the fee per rower remains at $400. The fee covers the cost of two nights’ accommodations at the hotel, daily meals, the group dinners, bus transportation, and registration fees.
We have also reserved a limited number of rooms for parents and families at The Embassy Suites. The room rate for our parent group is $175/evening. This rate includes a two-room suite which can accommodate up to four guests, a complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast, nightly manager’s reception, and the daily parking charge.
Rooms will be held on a first come, first served basis until April 19, 2011.
To make your reservation, please call 215-561-1776 (the main number of the hotel) and ask for Reservations. Our parent group reservation is under CCCRC – PARENTS GROUP. The meeting dates are May 19-21, 2011.
It takes at least 2½ hours to travel from Washington, DC to the racecourse, if traffic is light. General information and directions to the racecourse can be found on the regatta website via www.boathouserow.org. Public parking at the racecourse is available for a fee. The public parking sites are well marked but are a 10 – 15 minute walk from the racecourse. Free shuttle bus service is also provided.
Closer to the event we shall provide additional information about logistics. We will also call on parent volunteers for help. If you have any questions about the arrangements for Stotesbury, please contact me by cell at 301-452-1618 or by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. This event is as exciting for our families as it is for the team. We look forward to CCCRC's continued success at this regatta, and we hope to see you there.
Regards,
Charlotte Siegler
