On Saturday, February 4th, STA and NCS competed in the Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints, the largest indoor rowing event in the country. CCCRC focused on the 20 minute erg test, one of the more highly subscribed events with 70 entries (The goal being to row as many meters as possible in 20 minutes.) Fourteen girls, including 4 freshmen, finished in the top half of the pack. Notably, Anne Bertram and Rachel Siegler (see photo), Georgiana Watt, Cassandra Moshfegh, Molly McShane and Elena Modesti finished in the top 11, placing 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 7th and 11th respectively. All the NCS girls rowed with courage and determination in front of a gym full of spectators.
For STA, Woody Atwood placed 3rd with an average split of 1:44.7 and John Feest was 4th at 1:44.9 and Taylor Barker was 5th at 1:44.9. We also placed 13th, 17th , 28th, 31st and 42nd out of field of 98 competitors. Derin Dutz was 5th in the lightweight category at 1:53.7. With several boys not competing due to swimming or basketball, we likely would have had even more STA rowers in the top 10.
Full results here. This erg race showed that our teams are ready to compete at the highest levels this spring. Thanks to our coaches (and parent volunteers) for getting us ready and off to a great start. It is going to be an exciting new season for the CCCRC!
